Superintendent's Update

Update from 7/18/17 Windham School Board Meeting
Superintendent Richard LangloisJuly 19, 2017

Dear Windham Community,

I hope that you and your families have been enjoying the summer. The Windham School District, along with the Windham School Board and our volunteers, have been busy preparing for the upcoming school year. As a result, I wanted to inform you of some recent developments that were discussed at last night’s school board meeting.

Water Monitoring Update
As you know, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) recently detected contaminants found in water samples at the Town transfer station. Since the health and safety of our children and employees is paramount, the Windham School District has been working diligently with the NHDES to investigate and rectify potential impact on nearby school properties. Testing detected low concentrations of perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) at Windham Center School and 21 Haverhill Road. While no action was required to mitigate the contaminants, the SAU along with the Windham School Board, implemented a well-monitoring plan and explored a variety of options for water treatment.  The Windham School Board has asked for a comprehensive study. An update will be provided at the August 15 public school board meeting.

Golden Brook School and Windham Middle School Construction Update
The new schools construction project has made significant progress over the past few weeks. I am delighted to announce that the district closed on the property located at 114 Lowell Road, adjacent to Golden Brook School. In addition, the Windham School Board approved the letter of authorization with MacMillin Company, our construction management partner. With these developments, the construction project is now ready to break ground beginning next week. The Windham School District will hold a ceremony to officially celebrate this milestone and will begin to issue communications to residents and parents with more details on how the project may impact traffic and school operations in the coming weeks but we do not anticipate any major disruption to the area at this time. Please stay tuned for additional information.

We look forward to the upcoming school year and thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Richard P. Langlois
