End of 2017-18 Schoolyear Updates

Message from Superintendent Langlois and Chair Senibaldi
end of yearPlease view the following message from Superintendent Richard Langlois and Chair Dennis Senibaldi regarding plans for the end of the 2017-18 schoolyear.

Dear Families,

Thank you for your input regarding our end of schoolyear calendar. After exploring a number of options with the New Hampshire Department of Education, the Windham Educators Association, the AFSCME and the community, a solution has been determined and approved on how best to make up our eight instructional snow days and to have our WHS seniors graduate in a reasonable timeframe, while meeting all NH DOE requirements.

Through many discussions with the DOE as well as internal reviews of our instructional time, we have found an option that will allow our students to get out of school earlier than anticipated. The new student schedule includes making up five instructional days on June 15June 18June 19June 20 and June 21. The last day of school, June 21, will be an early release day. In addition, to satisfy state requirements we will be extending the end of schoolday by 15 minutes each day from April 30 thru June 4. As it relates to our preschool and kindergarten programs, we will only be extending the afternoon programs by 15 minutes and morning programs will not be affected by the extension. We have also been granted a two day waiver from the state. WHS seniors will also be able to graduate on June 15. The Grade 8 Promotion Ceremony will be held on June 20. Step Up Day will be held on June 20. Teachers will get out of school on June 22 and complete three afternoons of professional development as well as one hour extended time during the last week of school. While we understand that this may be a slight inconvenience for some families who have pre-planned afternoon commitments, this solution allows our students and staff to enjoy a longer summer break without the need to sacrifice weekends or April vacation.

The attached calendar reflects our new schedule. Thank you again for your suggestions and we appreciate your support.

Regards,
