6/5: Weekly Update

6/5: Weekly Update

Welcome to June!  Below are a few reminders and updates from this week’s recap in remote learning.

  • Senior send-off: To the Class of 2020 students and parents, we realize that this is not how you envisioned your senior year to end.  You have endured some major milestone losses that were unfair and heartbreaking.  We will continue to work to make as many memorable events possible. We thank you for your continued patience as we work through all of the details. We are so proud of our seniors for your continued hard work, maturity, and for the example that you have set for the rest of the district.  If this year has taught us anything, it is that the next challenge we face we will endure with perseverance, optimism, and hope.  We wish you all the best of luck in your next adventure.
  •  EmbraceRace Resource: With some of the most recent national news focusing on racial issues, we are aware that this may spark conversations and questions on this topic at home.  We wanted to share a resource with you from EmbraceRace that may help give you some tips on how to teach and talk to kids about race.  EmbraceRace is a multiracial community of parents, teachers, experts, and other caring adults who support each other to meet the challenges that race poses to our children, families, and communities. https://www.embracerace.org/
  •  Kindergarten Placement Reminder: Due to the inability to conduct the scheduled assessments that were supposed to take place on May 21, 2020. Class placements for our incoming Kindergarteners will be sent home no later than July 31, 2020.
  •  Approval of FY21-22 School Calendar: On Tuesday, June 2nd, the School Board formally approved the FY21-22 school calendar.  Click here to view the calendar.
  •  PPE Inventory: We have put together a collection of equipment and supplies such as masks, glasses, gloves, touchless thermometers, and cover-ups in volume to reduce potential exposure and increase protection of students and staff as we look to maintain a healthy school environment. The district will be allowed to procure additional supplies through supplemental funds provided under the Federal CARE Act Grant to address COVID-19.
  • Use of Facilities: The governor recently provided STAY at HOME 2.0 for day camps, centered on COVID-19 Reopening Guidance. This guidance applies to school district non-sponsored programs focused on summer day camps/playground programs offered by municipalities, private day care camp providers, and youth serving organizations that may wish to use our facilities.
    •  Effective Monday, June 8th, some of the Windham School District playgrounds and fields will be open for public use at your own advisory.  Please maintain proper social distancing orders while in use.  If you would like to reserve one of our available fields for community use, please contact bgolden@windhamsd.org Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-2:15pm to fill out the appropriate forms and to find out which fields are available for use.  Please note, the playground equipment will not be sanitized.
  •  2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey: The attached document contains the powerpoint presentation explaining the data findings and longitudinal trends from the 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The YRBS was developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to assess community trends in priority health risk behaviors among middle and high school aged youth. The Windham school district is one of a few schools in Rockingham County to administer the YRBS at the high school level every two years. Our community is dedicated to the health and safety of all of our students and has developed action items to assist in addressing the concerns this survey has brought to light.
  •  Summer camp- Any Windham School District sanctioned summer camp will be held remotely based on the current Governor’s social distancing orders. Class options and additional information will be provided separately. If these orders change, we will look at our plans for offering in-person activities.
    •  Current dates for most services will be July 6- August 6.
